I’m trying hard not to resist the joy. Don’t listen to me, I’m being paranoid. I might try hard but it’s too hard to avoid. My heart skips a beat…
– Heart Skips A Beat, Lenka.
Hi Readers! what’s up? My heart is really gonna skip a beat in this review. For some time now, I’ve been really eyeing these Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks. Oh so many reviews about it, in fact a lot of raves and praises. As for me, I was really enchanted about it when I saw one of my favorite instagrammer personality wearing the “Bond Girl” shade. I was like “that’s gotta be my shade too.” Well, curiosity bothered the cat, so yeah, off to Nordies galore. 🙂
Just a little overview, these lipsticks are really awarded and are considered a luxury. It’s supposed to be magical, long lasting, buildable and hydrating. Also has 3D glow pigments to create the illusion of lit-from-within lips that appear wider and fuller.
Now what do I think? while I like that the shades are very wearable, no annoying scent or taste, and the rosegold packaging is very glamorous, I am really quite disappointed with some things about these lipstick.
First, I don’t think they’re magical or if there’s anything magical about them. I could find other matte lipstick brands that I would consider magical. Second, they are not long lasting even after using a lip primer, or at least they didn’t last more than 5 minutes on me after eating or drinking. Perhaps the darker shades might last a bit more. Third, they’re not hydrating at all. I found it hard to swipe on my lips, and I had to swipe several times to get the full coverage that I wanted. That must be the reason why they claimed these lipsticks to be buildable, precisely because they come off as sheer to subtle mattes. Fourth, when it comes to these lipstick’s comfort, these are tough to apply since they’re not creamy at all. My lips felt kinda dry after a few seconds of application. Fifth. I don’t know about the 3D glow pigments that creates the illusion of lit-from-within lips, I didn’t notice it all. Well I already have a gigantic baboon lips, so no need for such illusions and delusions. 🙂
- Very Victoria – Taupe Nude. Gorgeous nude shade that’s ideal for light to medium skin tone. Very Victoria Beckham-ish. Pouts!
- Amazing Grace – Muted Pinkish Red. Pretty like an english rose. Very ideal for spring to summer days. Would really work for all skin tones.
- Bond Girl – Muted Reddish Brown. A gorgeous brick-brown-red shade that will fit any lip color, from Eva Green to Olga Kurylenko. 🙂
- Birkin Brown – Dark Brown. A wearable shade of brown, just like eating a chocolate.
Despite the drying formulations of these lipsticks, I love the fact that they’re very lightweight and indeed the colors are very wearable as they are on the subtle side. But if you need full coverage, then you need to keep swiping for more. Also, these has no strong aftertaste or scent, just a very very mild hint of vanilla. However, due to its steep price, mediocre lasting power and drying formulations, I cannot justify purchasing these. Though I would really really love these lipsticks, if only… but I think there are far more better brands to choose from that can deliver a good, high quality matte lipsticks out there. I recommend Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme, Urban Decay Vice Lipstick and Gucci Lip Sensuous Deep-Matte Lipstick.
That’s it for now amigos! See yah later amigas!
