Sephora Play! April 2018

sephora play april 2018 box

What’s Up! Before the month of May hits, let’s talk about this month’s Sephora Play! Finally, after some product misses with my previous Play! boxes, it looks like here’s one box with some very interesting stuff in it. This month’s theme is called “Insta Beauty” the kind of products that will give you that selfie-ready face. So ready to check out what I got for this April?

Peter Thomas Roth Skin to Die For, No- Filter Mattifying Primer & Complexion Perfector

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Perfector Skin Tint Foundation SPF 25 in shade #08 (1.01 oz: $36) – I’ve tried this in-store before and I really love the consistency. It has a lightweight, kind of sheer but buildable texture, and it feels breathable on the skin, at least when I swatched it. I don’t really know why I didn’t purchase one on the spot, I must have have been distracted at that time, but I was so excited when I saw this mini inside my Sephora Play box this month. However, Sephora sent me the wrong color, which looks too dark for my skin tone, and obviously, I couldn’t wear it, but I really love how it feels on the skin. It feels like a skin tint or a tinted bb cream and it seems perfect for this coming Summer since it has an Spf 25.

Peter Thomas Roth Skin to Die For, No- Filter Mattifying Primer & Complexion Perfector (1 oz: $28) – This feels cushiony and light, like the Benefit Porefessional Primer, but a bit more hydrating, in my opinion. I love that this feels creamy and this really blurs the pores and mattifies. It makes the makeup look non-shiny and not dry at the same time. Before, I could care less about mattifying primers, but this one does the job well, and it works even on a hot sunny day. Love it!

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Ultra-Light Moisturizer (4.7 oz: $25) – A simple lightweight moisturizer that feels very hydrating. It has vitamins and antioxidants and it smooths the skin very well. It has a nice fresh clean scent and I love that it spreads evenly across the face without feeling like I put too much. This also feels quite calming upon application and as with most Philosophy products, this is definitely worth a try.

Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss in shade SPL

Elizabeth And James Nirvana White Eau de Parfum (mino/0.34 oz: $28, 1 oz: $68, 1.7 oz: $85, 3.4 oz: $110) – This a very light feminine scent that smells like light cotton or a white fresh linen. It’s kinda hard to notice its notes because it’s very subtle. Something about this fragrance seems very crisp and clean. A nice new scent for the summer.

Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss in shade SPL (0.23 oz: $20) – A holographic candy pink with iridescent sparkle. It’s super pretty and sparkly, which kinda reminds me of the Dior Addict Lip Glow in Holo Purple (swatches here). Also, it smells like yummy menthol and it feels very hydrating. It’s doesn’t feel that oily and not that sticky either, so it pretty much feels like a balm. It can be worn alone or as a lip topper. I noticed some plumping effect and it lasts about 4 hours on me, give or take, including eating and drinking.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask (mini/1 oz: $25, 3.3 oz: $62) – This mask smells like strong rose extract plus seaweed. It’s very moisturizing and softening on the skin but it can be pretty hard to wash off since it’s very creamy and very concentrated. But don’t worry because it’s all worth it. Your skin will literally feel pampered and very smooth. You can even see and feel what looked like seaweed particles and they make for an exfoliating effect.

To sum it up, I think this month’s Sephora play is a hit for me. I almost love all the products they sent me and they’re something that I could readily use. I only wish that in the future Sephora will make an effort to send the right match/shade for my skin tone whenever they’d decide to include a foundation mini inside my box. So, there you go guys, that’s what I got for this month’s Sephora Play.

Sephora Play! March 2018

sephora play box march 2018 review

Hello Makeup Junkies! Curious about what came in my Sephora Play! Box this month? It’s been a pretty interesting bunch of some stuff I surprisingly liked and some stuff that I had mixed emotions with. There were also some minis that I’ve already tried before and have reviewed here on the blog, so without further ado, let’s take a look.

Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12 hr Wear Waterproof in 15 Flirting Game

Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Ginseng + Biotin Volumizing Spray (5 oz: $20) โ€“ I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a Briogeo product before. Their stuff always smells good and is always a delight to use. This volumizing spray is no different for sure. In fact, it’s so good and it’s one of my fave in this month’s box. This totally tamed my frizzes away while giving that neatly volumized look. I’ve used this after towel drying my hair and also during the day to keep my hair well-behaved, and OMG it works and I lurve it. I normally don’t use hair sprays as they tend to be sticky, especially when the weather is warm, but this? it’s light, non-sticky, and it makes my hair look shiny and in place. Totally a keeper.

Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12 hr Wear Waterproof in 15 Flirting Game (0.04 oz: $10) – This is a shimmery metallic taupe eyeliner that glides fairly easily on the lids. It’s easy to apply and smooth to use, and it has a very good staying power despite the heat, sweat, and humidity. It is also affordable and has other shades and finishes to choose from. It’s a great reliable eyeliner if you’re on a budget.

Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara wand

Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara (0.22 oz: $27.50) – This is one of the best lengthening mascaras I’ve ever tried, but the “s” or “infinity” shape of the wand doesn’t help as much in curling the lashes, however, the formula is long lasting and it doesn’t smudge. See the whole review HERE.

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm Spf 45 in 01 Light Medium

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in 35 Bohemian Purple (0.169 oz: $14) – This has always been a very good quality matte liquid lipstick and thumbs up to Sephora for creating this very good line. The texture and finish of this are very similar to most high-end matte liquid lipsticks available at Sephora and in other stores. This lipstick sets quite immediately, it is long lasting, non-smudging, lightweight and comfortable with a slight vanilla scent. However, I’m not a fan of the shade that they sent me, it’s too violet/purple-ish for my taste. For more shades, check out the review that I did previously about this lipstick.

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm Spf 45 in 01 Light Medium (1.5 oz: $39) – This is some sort of a tinted moisturizer with a light to medium coverage. On my skin, the 01 Light Medium shade kinda appears too beige at first, but it blends on my skin easily and it then matched my skin tone, making it very wearable. The formula is soft, blendable and it covers any blemishes, imperfections, and redness. The coverage lasts throughout the day and it doesn’t have any annoying scent. I like that it comes with a good Spf number too.

marajo hair care Nourishing Cleansing Creme

Marajo Hair Care:

ย Nourishing Cleansing Creme (8.5 oz: $29) โ€“ I was really disappointed with this shampoo. On my hair, it didnโ€™t lather at all, and it made my hair very oily the next day. I kinda liked the way it smells somehow, like almond butter. However, this shampoo just didnโ€™t work for me, so I don’t recommend it.

ย Deep Treatment Butter (5.3 oz: $29) โ€“ This is supposed to be the conditioner in partner with the Marajo Nourishing Cleansing Creme above, but this has a rancid smell. My hair didn’t feel silky at all once I applied the product on. It feels just a thick cream but it didn’t necessarily condition my hair. I still feel like my hair was not cleaned after rinsing like there was some weird soapy residue. Totally dislike.

sephora play march 2018

Overall, as I said before, this month’s samplers have been a very mixed one. I definitely like the Briogeo Volumizing Spray, the Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil, and the Dr. Jart+ Beauty Balm, but I wasn’t feeling the Marajo Hair Care samples.

Any Sephora Play! minis you like this month?

Sephora Play! February 2018

sephora play box february 2018

I finally got my Sephora Play! box this month and I couldn’t be more excited. However, I have mixed emotions about this month’s contents. I’m a bit dismayed because I feel like Sephora keeps me sending me the same one or two products over and over again. I wanted something new for a change, so I’m quite disappointed about that. On the other hand, I’m happy with the other products that I got because they’re something new, and it’s definitely fun to explore and test a product that you would never imagine trying before.

Check out what I got

Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb

Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb ($48) – If you love Belif’s The True Cream Aqua Bomb, then there’s no reason for you not to love this Moisturizing Eye Bomb. Its got the same refreshing irresistible scent that the Aqua Bomb has, and it’s really great to moisturize the skin around the eyes. It even soothes puffiness and it’s great to layer under eye makeup. It is gel-based but its hydration can go a long way. I love that this doesn’t have a sticky residue feel once it gets absorbed by the skin. Overall, this is such a good eye cream and I really love it, so I’m planning to have this in its regular size pretty soon.

Sephora Collection Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic

Sephora Collection Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic (0.10 oz: $7) – I’ve tried this lipstick line from Sephora before, but I’ve never tried the Rebel Chic color. At first, it seemed too much of a dark vampy red for me, but when I applied it to my lips, I was actually quite in love with the color. It’s vampy yeah, but it’s also a sexy vampy red wine shade. It’s not too emo or too gothic and it actually works quite well with my pigmented lips. The matte texture is comfortable, lightweight, and not so drying. I also kinda love the slight berry flavor of this lipstick, on top of that, the color doesn’t even bleed or transfer. I am definitely smitten with this.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold (0.05 oz: $29) – I love Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick Eyeshadows (swatches HERE), I think they’re one of the best eye contouring product you can buy nowadays, but when the mini rose gold color keeps appearing in some of my Sephora Play!, I feel like Sephora could do better at curating their subscription boxes, or at least pay attention to what has already been sent to their respective subscribers. Anyway, since I already have this Rose Gold shade in its regular size, I’m just gonna give it to someone else. I just hope Sephora would send me something new and something different next time.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let's Go Crazy

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let’s Go Crazy (0.086 oz: $27) – While I’m not crazy about this vivid pink shade, I am actually in love with the texture of this matte lip pencil. The color is so bold, so pigmented, and so staining. I love how the color remained on my lips for hours and hours and it doesn’t feather. It’s also very easy to apply and line the lips because of its pencil design. However, I don’t like the fact that I have to sharpen this all the time. It would be nice if Nars would update the packaging and make it more of a twist type at least attach a built-in sharpener at the bottom.

Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume

Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume (mini/0.34 oz: $26, 1 oz: $85, 3.3 oz: $140, 6.7 oz: $235) – This may have been a repeat product from my previous Sephora Play, though I’m not quite sure. Anyway, I’m not really a vanilla scent fan because I don’t quite like the scent of most vanilla perfume’s drydown. But this Vanille Insensee from Atelier Cologne is different. It is subtle and it’s quite fresh, which doesn’t make my nose turn up. The blend of vanilla, jasmine, and lime is enough to make this scent distinctive, warm, and sophisticated. It’s definitely not your typical sweet vanilla type of scent, but more of a sexy, elegant, and stylish type. I feel like I could wear this and not get annoyed because the vanilla tone is not overpowering, and the drydown is quite powdery.

Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel (3.4 oz: 48) – I’ve never heard of this product before, so imagine my excitement and curiosity when I received this in my Sephora Play! box. This gel has a faint fresh scent that looks like any other gel cleanser in the market but once you scrub this on your face, you’ll get a different kind of impression. This literally peeled and scrubbed off dead skin cells from the surface of my face. It polished my rough skin and it makes it so smooth, and ready for any moisturizer. I also noticed some of my blackheads and whiteheads resurfacing, which makes me conclude that this product is a very good exfoliator. Oh, I’m afraid I’ll be buying this in its full size soon.

That sums up all the products that I got for this month’s Sephora Play subscription box. As you can see, there’s are interesting products that I love, but there are also a few products that I wasn’t so crazy about. What did you get for this month’s Sephora Play?

Goodbye February, Hello there March!
