Don’t you remember you told me you loved me baby? You said you’d be coming back this way again baby…(Superstar by The Carpenters)
Oh hey there? I just love that song, don’t get me wrong ok? I’m not broken hearted or anything like that, but girl, I swear, I’m really feelin’ that song. That’s my ultimate heat wave theme song, Ha! Anyhoo, by the time you’re done reading this review, you’ll probably realize how much I love YSL lipsticks so much. They have one of the best packaging plus the best formulation of lipsticks eva! as in Eva Longoria, LOLz. I’m particularly obsessed with their Rouge Volupte and Rouge Volupte Shines, and lately, I’ve been stalking Sephora to see if they have new stocks of YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks and Rouge Pur Couture The Mats. Yeah, that’s how I’ve become batshit crazy with YSL. Excuse the language folks. 🙂
Btw, what’s the difference between YSL’s Rouge Volupte and Rouge Volupte Shine? I don’t know… haha! I swear I didn’t know it at the beginning, but 2 of the lipsticks I’m about to review here are from the Rouge Volupte line. Now, Rouge Volupte is more pigmented, satiny and feels more like a real lipstick. While Rouge Volupte Shine is less pigmented and acts more like a tinted balm. Its texture is more oily and extremely moisturizing compared to Rouge Volupte. For me, I particularly like the Rouge Volupte more, but there’s not a lot of colors to choose from.
03 Beige Ultime – One of my favorite shades here. It’s a warm beige-brown nude that would work in any skin color. I love the pigment of this lipstick. It’s very satiny and hydrating yet very well-pigmented. Easy to glide on the lips.
09 Rose/Pink Caresse – Very spring-ready with its pink-mauve tone. A great shade from the Rouge Volupte line. Just like #03 Beige Ultime, this has a satiny feel, lightweight, moisturizing and very well-pigmented. Another fave for sure.
Rouge Volupte Shines:
02 Pourpre Intouchable – A berry/wine shade that suits for all skin tones. Very pretty for the fall and winter and is very very moisturizing. Quite similar to Chanel’s Bonheur but perhaps a bit deeper in tone.
07 Rose Infinite – A lighter version of #02 Pourpre Intouchable but with a bit of shimmer. It’s a pretty light rose-berry shade that’s also great for any skin color. Very fresh-looking shade.
09 Nude in Private – A super-nude shade that’s ideal when paired with smoky eyes or for anybody with lighter skin tone. I like this shade if I wanna go almost makeup free, but I don’t reach for this much because it’s quite too nude on me and might make me look washed-out.
12 Corail Incandescent – Very interesting and very different. I have a mixed feeling about this shade. It’s such a breath of fresh air, or more like fresh orange-pomegranate juice. 🙂 so pretty yet kinda difficult to wear. It’s also extremely pigmented and quite neon-ish. A tricky shade to pull off indeed. But well, perhaps wearing this “the ombre way” would be better. It reminds me a lot of the notorious YSL Rouge Pur Couture in #52.
15 Corail Intuitive – It’s supposed to be a very light coral shade, but I didn’t see the coral tone on my lips at all. I guess because my lips has pigments and that kinda swallowed the whole “corail” thing. 🙂 It’s also more nude to me, just like #09 Nude in Private.
If it’s not for the steep price, I would have hoarded them already, but it’s good to have a few of these in your purse. They’re so pretty and very hydrating. Another thing to consider is, don’t lose the boxes of these, the packaging only has numbers for shade identification. So if you lose the box, you’ll never know the descriptive name of your shade. But, you can always look it up online.
The YSL Rouge Volupte & Rouge Volupte Shine is available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Barneys NY, Saks, Neiman, Lord & Taylor, Net-A-Porter, Selfridges, Violet Grey, Bloomingdales & YSL.COM
