Nyx Powder Puff Lippie Lip Cream Review + Swatches

nyx powder puff lippie lip cream

Hello there! In my previous posts, I have mentioned about being curious with the latest Nyx Powder Puff Lippie Lip Cream (5.95 USD Amazon, 8.50 USD Ulta). If you’ve been a long-time reader of my blog, you’d know that I have a thing for matte lipsticks, especially the liquid or cream ones that set into a soft-focus blotted type, like the Buxom Pillowpout Lip Powder (reviewed HERE), the Lorac PRO Hi-Res Lip & Cheek Powder (seen HERE), or even the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips Matte Liquid Lipstick (swatched HERE). This time, I’d like to compare and talk about the Nyx Powder Puff Lippie that everyone seems to be really liking right now.

Per Nyx’s description, the Powder Puff Lippie Lip Cream is a creamy lip color packaged in a soft puffy applicator that glides on the lips easily and it sets into a powdery soft-focus matte finish. Upon my first impression, the packaging of this lipstick looks cute with its nice squeezable tube that releases a precise amount of product through the spongy applicator. Speaking of the applicator, it does apply the product easily on the lips and it feels smooth, easy, and precise to apply.

There is not a lot of strong scent on this product and they come in several shades. I did notice that there are inconsistencies with the shades. For example, there are variations or different tones in two or more particular shades. For example, the shade Squad Goals had one in a rosy tone at Ulta and a more beige tone as well. It seems to me like a manufacturer issue. I don’t know for sure, but it’s something worth considering into, especially if youโ€™re looking for your preferred shade. For my choice of shades, I did pick only three because I find that some of the shades didn’t quite match my skintone. Since there are variabilities in the colors, I decided to pick up the shade that would look best on my skin. See the swatches below.

Squad Goals – tea rose pink

Moody – cool-toned plum

Prank Call – burgundy

As for the formula, I find the Nyx Powder Puff Lippie to be creamy at first, and then it does settle into a very comfortable soft-focus (not-necessarily powdery) blurry matte. It never felt drying on me and it really does last a long time, about 4-6 hours on my lips, even after eating, snacking, etc. Overall, I’m really impressed at it especially because it’s got an affordable price point, and on top of that, its overall quality is very good. I also think that this is way more comfortable than the lip products I mentioned above, like the Buxom and Lorac Lip Powders. When compared to the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips, this Nyx one feels more hydrating, although if you’re into the super powdery blotted type of lips look, then the Hollywood Lips will give you that. As when compared to the Glossier Generation G Lipstick (seen HERE), well, that one feels more like a balm with a sheer blotted soft-focus look. Overall, I highly recommend this lipstick.

There is also another Nyx product I’m currently eyeing, and it’s the Line & Load All-In-One Lippie. I will investigate that soon. So, stay tuned guys.

Have you tried this particular Nyx lipstick already?

Buxom Pillow Pout Creamy Plumping Lip Powder review, lorac pro hi-res lip & cheek powder

Ever since trying the Buxom Pillow Pout Lip Powders (originally reviewed HERE) which I love and still use even to these days, I decided to try some other lip powders from other brands just to see and compare if there’s a major difference among them. Lip Powders are fairly new to me. I find these type of lips products to be quite innovative and unique, and I like the semi-matte, soft focus, muted look that they do on my lips, kinda like the blotted type. There’s still not a lot of lipsticks like these nowadays, although I could see them being really popular pretty soon, it’s just a matter of finding the right formula to make them even more comforting and with a beautiful color range to match.

Sephora Collection Lip Powder, buxom pillow pout, lorac hi-res lip & cheek review

For this review, I’d like to focus more on the mid-range type of lip powders, especially the ones who look exactly similar in terms of packaging and formulation; that would be the lip powders from Sephora, Lorac, and of course, Buxom. Although, I’ll tell you later how these products compare to the newest Liquid Powder from Chanel (seen HERE).

Lorac PRO Hi-Res Lip & Cheek Powder

Lorac PRO Hi-Res Lip & Cheek Powder (0.03 oz: $19): This looks exactly like the Buxom Pillow Pout Lip Powder as well as the ones from Sephora Collection. Formula-wise, this feels more like the Buxom Pillow Pout which is kinda creamy and this has a really nice very wearable shade range. Also, you can apply this not only on the lips but also on the cheeks. I like this a lot, but it’s a lot more drying than the Buxom ones and it has strong kinda weird vanilla scent.

Curated – mauve

Neue – muted raspberry rose

Wallflower – terracotta rose

Sephora Collection Lip Powder in rust red, red hot and rethink pink

Sephora Collection Lip Powder (0.035 oz: $5): Currently on sale for a very cheap price and I’m not surprised why. Even though this also resembles like the Lorac PRO above as well as the Buxom’s, the shades of this lip powder are just too metallic and they’re hard for me to pull off. This lip powder is also very drying and I don’t seem to like its weird choco scent.

Rethink Pink – metallic mauve pink

Rust Red – copper red

Red Hot – metallic bright orange-red

buxom pillow pout lip powder in seduce me, cozy up, so spicy, darling dolly

Buxom Pillow Pout Creamy Plumping Lip Powder (0.03 oz: $22): The formula of this is a lot better than the Lorac or the Sephora ones because this feels a bit creamier, more hydrating, and it doesn’t have a very strong scent. Also, this comes in several wearable shades and I like its tingly feel once it’s applied on the lips. Reviewed further HERE.

Cozy Up – nude mauve

Darling Dolly – mauve pink (swatched HERE)

Seduce Me – wine red

So Spicy – pumpkin spice (seen HERE)

Lorac PRO Hi-Res Lip & Cheek Powder, Sephora Collection Lip Powder, buxom pillow pout lip powder swatches

As a summary, these lip powders look exactly the same at least on the outside. They have the same packaging, same sponge tip applicators, same blotted matte finish on the lips, same lightweight feel and almost the same long-wearing property which pretty much lasts for several hours. Yet, they differ in the intensity of their scents and shade range. Lorac and Buxom have really nice shade availability, but Lorac is a lot more drying and has a stronger scent, while Buxom feels comfier and doesn’t have a strong scent. The Sephora ones could have been better but the colors are just way too much.

Sephora Collection Lip Powder, buxom pillow pout, lorac hi-res lip & cheek stain review

Now, for the more expensive option, Chanel recently released their Rouge Allure Liquid Powders (reviewed HERE) which I think is the best when it comes to liquid lip powders with very good formulation. The Chanel ones come in a powdery cushiony liquid form and not the creamy type like the ones in this review, but it does come with a sponge applicator and the effect is soft-focus with shades that are highly pigmented, long-wearing, comfortable and are very staining. For me, this is a very reliable liquid lip powder.
