Rouge Dior Ultra Care Lipstick & Liquid Lipstick Review + Swatches

Dior Rouge Dior Ultra Care Lipstick & Liquid Lipsticks review swatch

Happy New Year everyone! It’s finally 2020! I can’t wait to see what this year will bring for us. I hope this year will be a year filled with happiness, excitement, and of course, beauty stuff, lol. So, to start the year, let’s talk about two of the latest Dior lip releases this Fall/Winter – The Rouge Dior Ultra Care line of Lipsticks and Liquid Lipsticks.

I almost overlooked this release thinking it would be quite the same as the Rouge Dior Ultra Rouge Lipsticks last year (reviewed HERE in the blog). But actually, it’s not, this latest line of Dior lipsticks may have the same packaging style and color as last year’s Dior Ultra Rouge, but these lipsticks have a different texture, and the liquid ones are totally different as well.

Some of the shades/numbers in this release may be available in both lipstick and liquid lipstick form, and they may slightly vary in color depth and tone. The shades of the Rouge Dior Ultra Care Lipsticks are all matte in finish, while the Rouge Dior Ultra Liquid ones are in matte and satin.

Rouge Dior Ultra Care Lipstick (all matte, 38 USD)

This type of lipstick has camelina oil and jojoba. It feels really light and super comfortable. It does have the signature Dior floral lipstick scent, and the packaging is a beautiful standout red. The center/core of the lipstick contains a white CD, like a cute embossing that contains the camelina oil and jojoba for hydration. It adds a bit of pearlescent sheen to the lipstick’s main shade. Additionally, the texture of this lipstick is comfortable matte and it can last for hours without reapplication. The shades are also mostly very beautiful and very pigmented.

480 Fleur Bleue (dusty pink matte) – on my skin, it looks like a light coral pink

750 Blossom (intense pink matte) – looks more like a medium pink on me

Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick (matte and satin, 38 USD)

Dior Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipsticks review

This liquid lipstick is infused with camelina and almond oil, and also with shea butter. It feels so light and it also has the signature Dior floral scent, but a bit more subtle than the lipstick version above. It comes in both matte and satin finish, and both are very comfortable on the lips. The pigment is amazing and also very long-lasting. The matte finish tends to have a soft-focus diffuse effect on the lips, while the satin one adds more depth and dimension. Personally, I love both finishes because the satin shades don’t look too shimmery. The only thing I don’t like about this lipstick is the weak brush applicator. Though the packaging is cute and pretty in red, and the brush’s shape is quite precise to apply, but it bends too much and it feels weak and too soft upon application. Still, that didn’t stop me from collecting another shade, which is the 966 Desire below. It’s such a beautiful color.

786 Rosewood (matte, rosewood) – a diffused matte brick rose

808 Caress (satin, lychee pink) – a spice sheen

966 Desire (satin, ruby red) – burgundy with a subtle sheen

Bottom line, these are the best lipsticks I’ve tried this season and I highly recommend them. I may have a slight preference for the liquid version, but that’s because I like their diffused natural effect on my lips, however, both lipsticks’ form and the finishes are totally worth trying for their lasting powder and bold pigments.

Have you tried these already?

The Dior Rouge Dior Ultra Care Lipstick & Liquid Lipsticks are currently available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Macy’s

Happy New Year again everybody! Thank you for your continued support and may you all have your hearts’ desires this 2020. Cheers!

Favorite Essie Nail Colors

essie nail polish favorites

Essie is one of my favorite go-to nail polish brands of all time. Apart from loving their range of gorgeous eye-popping nail colors, I also like the fact that their products are pretty much easy to find. Whenever I’m at my local drugstore or grocery store, I always make it a point to drop by at the nail polish aisle and look for what’s new in Essie nail colors. I must have collected a ton of Essie nail polishes already, but I do have some colors that I tend to reach more often and I’ll be showing their swatches in this review.

best essie nail colors

As you can see, I’m a fan of reds and pinks when it comes to nail colors, that’s because these shades tend to always look great on me, and I guess it also applies to most of us, but I still have some favorites in blues, nudes, and even a green. Lately, with the introduction of the newest Essie Gel-Couture nail polishes, I kinda stopped collecting the original Enamel shades as I find the Gel ones to be a lot more long lasting and less prone to chipping, although the Enamel ones have really good longevity as well. I’m still at my early stage of collecting the Gel-Couture shades, as of now, I only have some reds and mostly nudes, but I plan to expand my collection to some shades of blues, violets, and some other colors hopefully soon, and I’ll do a separate post for my favorite shades of the Essie Gel-Coutures only.

Here are my favorite Essie Nail Colors

essie nail polish review

Enamel ($9) – Original, lots of beautiful shades to choose from. Lasts about two weeks on me with some chipping. The brush applicator is a miss for me because it’s so thin and it takes a careful maneuvering to apply the shades.

essie wicked, aruba blue, big spender, splash of grenadine, a list, angora cardi, stylenomics, mrs. always right, dress to kilt, hide & go chic, scarlett o'hara swatches

Hide & Go Chic – teal

Big Spender – plum

Wicked – vamp

Mrs. Always-Right – terracotta rose

A List – classic red

Aruba Blue – metallic sapphire

Dress To Kilt – deep red

Splash of Grenadine – pink magenta

Angora Cardi – deep dusty rose

Scarlett O’Hara – shimmery ruby red

Stylenomics – rich dark green

Gel-Couture ($11.50) – Very long wearing, lasts about three weeks on me with very minimal chipping and I love the brush applicator since it’s wider than the enamel and kinda tapered/rounded towards the tip. However, the color range has not been completely expanded yet and there are some inconsistencies with the shades, like the Pinned Up color having two different intensities; one being lighter and the other being darker. On the other hand, these nail colors are great to use with the Essie Gel Top Coat to set immediately and for a brilliant shine.

Sew Me – cream caramel

Bubbles Only – creamy burgundy

Pinned Up – nude pink rose, there’s an inconsistency with this color. One bottle may be lighter than the other. Lighter shade looks very close to Sew Me, while the darker one is closer to All Dressed Up. Love both tones though.

Spiked With Style – wine red

All Dressed Up – medium rose pink

essie nails review

Bottom line, it’s hard to tell the Enamel nail colors when compared to the Gel ones, especially at eye value. They both pretty much smell the same, feel the same, and look the same. The only difference between them is the lasting power, which the Gels obviously are ahead at with barely any chipping. The nice thing about Essie is that they tend to have beautiful bold colors that are easy to find, not that crazy expensive, and reliable. Perfect for all your nail polish needs.

The Essie Nail Colors can be found at most local grocery stores and drugstores everywhere, as well as at Ulta, Target, Dermstore, Kohl’s, Walgreens, and Macy’s

Dior Vernis Review

Dior Vernis review

This is my first time trying out the Dior Nail Polish and I honestly can say that I love their nail colors so much already. I’ve always been using Chanel for most of my high-end nail lacquers (reviewed HERE), supplemented by a bunch of OPI, Essie, and China Glaze. This time I’m venturing into other nail polishes to see if the grass is really always greener on the other side. Well, I’m happy to say that yeah, perhaps, it almost always is, except for a few caveats.

The Dior Vernis nail colors are all in a gel formula, just like the new Chanel Le Vernis. It goes on smoothly and feels very rich and creamy while fast-drying at the same time. The brush applicator is wide and very precise, which I’m really impressed at. Also, the scent of this particular nail polish is not as strong as the other nail polishes I’ve tried before, even slightly less than Chanel’s. The very best thing about the Dior Vernis Gel Shine is that the colors are extremely versatile, wearable, very classic and well-pigmented. I noticed that I seem to like most of their shades and would want to wear them all.

dior vernis incognito 257

  • Incognito (257) – Definitely the best nail color if you want something subtle yet sophisticated. It’s a very corporate shade and also very casual. The best definition would be that this nail color is very versatile for everyday use. The perfect nude nail color, even more so for medium skin tones.

dior vernis cosmopolite 785

  • Cosmopolite (785) – I’d like to call this a vintage, retro-ish, washed-out red, or more of a brick rose-red. It’s classic but not boring and has an old-world feel. A muted red that is also very versatile. Great for when you’re bored of red nails or that red nails may be a bit too much for the occasion. This is definitely a unique red tone shade.

Dior Vernis mirage 338

  • Mirage (338) – If you’re a fan of purples, magentas, plums, or violet-pinks like me, then you’ll love this shade. It’s quite similar to OPI Dim Sum Plum or Essie Big Spender, but with slightly more lasting power than the other two.

dior vernis Massaï 853

  • Massaï (853) – My most favorite shade of the entire Dior Vernis by far, and one of the most perfect red nail color I’ve ever seen. It’s definitely a rich deep red and slightly vampy like blood. There’s no black tone nor orange tone. It’s more of a blue-toned red and the formula goes on smoothly into the nails. This nail polish definitely complements all skin tones because of its perfect beauty.

dior vernis nuit 1947 970

  • Nuit 1947 (970) – I love vampy shades and this one is also perfect for me. It’s a deep vampy red like wine but looks almost black in low light. It’s similar to Chanel Le Vernis in Rouge Noir than Vamp. No shimmers, just plain reddish-black nail color.

dior gel coat review

  • Gel Coat – This is the topcoat of choice for the Dior Vernis Gel Shine. It is meant to make the gel nail colors dry fast and to make them long-wearing. Which I think is definitely true on the fast-drying ability of this topcoat, but I’m not sure about this top coat’s long-wear potential. My nail color starts chipping on the side during the 5th day, which doesn’t happen with me whenever I use the Chanel Le Gel Coat with the Chanel Le Vernis. I don’t know if it’s this topcoat or the Dior Vernis in general, but I find this topcoat to be not as long-wearing as what it’s supposed to be. A lot of people prefer the Top Coat Abricot more than this Gel Coat, which I haven’t tried yet, but will definitely give it a go-to compare them side by side pretty soon.

Dior Vernis swatches

Verdict: I love the Dior Vernis and will definitely recommend it to you all. The colors are great and the formula is also wonderful. I love that the scent is not too strong and it disappears quickly, and I also love the wide brush applicator for a more even application better than Chanel’s. Also, the nail colors dry very fast with the help of the designated Gel Top Coat, but it’s not as long-lasting as the Chanel Le Gel Coat (reviewed HERE). I probably get a good 7 days of wear with these Dior nail polishes, while I get almost 2 weeks from the Chanel Le Vernis. In addition to that, Chanel has a lot of colors to choose from, yet Dior Vernis’ well-pigmented pretty colors are to die for.

– The Dior Vernis retails for $27 in Sephora, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Saks, & Neiman Marcus.

– The Dior Gel Coat is also $27 in these following retailers: Sephora, Nordstrom, Macys & Saks

– While the Chanel Le Vernis nail polishes are also available at Nordstrom
