YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain Review + Swatches

YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain 5 rosewood gang 8 black red code

Why Hello There! Want something exciting? Me, I’m excited for all the Fall makeup launches that’s been popping up lately. There’s definitely gonna be a lot of beautiful stuff to look forward to, and one of them is the latest lip launch from Yves Saint Laurent Beauty. While I know each of us has been all fired up with Rihanna’s Fenty makeup release (will be reviewed here soon), you may have overlooked that YSL also released their own version of matte liquid lip stains. They’re called the Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stains (0.20 oz for $36). They’re not exactly matte liquid lipsticks, but they’re pretty much what a matte liquid lipstick should be, and what I’ve always wanted and has been waiting for from YSL to release.

YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain review

If you’re a YSL lipstick/beauty fan, myself included, then let us all rejoice. We all know that YSL makes such good quality lipsticks with high impact pigments and irresistible colors, so the Tatouage Couture Matte Lip Stain is definitely great news. These have the same flavor/scent that comes with YSL lipsticks and the consistency is not creamy but more gel-like. The brush applicator is completely unique because it’s shaped like a spatula with a YSL insignia on both sides and it allows you to apply the lip stain precisely on your lip lines-similar to a lip liner. The packaging looks cute, sleek, and easy to keep in your purse or makeup pouch. I love the frosted glass tube and shiny top which is a bit similar to Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Color (reviewed HERE).

When it comes to their lasting power, these YSL Tatouage Matte Lip Stains will take about 4-5 minutes to set on your lips, and will also require 2-3 swipes to get a full coverage on the lips (at least on mine). Although, if you just want a light to moderate coverage or even an ombre effect, one swipe will just do. Once these lip stains set, they’re set for a long haul. In fact, after 4-5 minutes of application, these lip stains start to have a matte effect with almost zero transfer. Beyond that, I haven’t noticed any transfer at all, no feathering, and no smudging. These Tatouage Lip Stains are definitely kiss-proof like a lip tattoo.

These Lip Stains are kinda like Armani’s Lip Magnets (reviewed HERE), Lancome Matte Shakers (seen HERE), and Dior’s Lip Tattoos (HERE). They’re all intensely-pigmented comfortable lip stains that last for a long time while feeling weightless. Some may be a bit more drying than the others, like Dior’s Lip Tattoo which is a tad bit drying, while Armani has the perfect blend of high-impact colors+lightweight feel+no dryness on the lips while remaining smudge-proof. The YSL Tatouage is closer to Armani’s Lip Magnet in terms of formulation and property. Love the array of shades too.

5 Rosewood Gang –  Deep Mauve Pink. The perfect mauve rose shade that will work on any skin tone. The formula of this seems to set a bit quicker than the others and it’s intensely staining. One of my most favorite shade in this line of lip stains.

8 Black Red CodeDeep Burgundy. Another favorite shade of mine. This shade is so ready for Fall with its reddish-black tone. It’s a wonderful wine shade that commands attention and complements the lips wherever you go.

16 Nude EmblemTerra Cotta Pink. Something about this shade that makes it currently sold out in Sephora. It seems very popular among others, and some have compared it to the famous Armani Lip Magnet in #507 (seen HERE), but for me, I think this shade is a lot closer to #506 or a blend of #505 and #506. Oh well, I thought this shade would be some sort of a medium warm nude pink or something like that, but I find this shade to be a terra cotta coral. It’s unique and entirely different.

23 Singular TaupeDeep Nude. From the moment I saw this shade, I knew this was gonna be the perfect nude shade for my light-medium skin tone. Indeed it is, and I love that it gives a nice natural pout for an everyday lipstick look. The #7 Nu Interdit shade is a lighter version of this, which is great for fair to light skin tone.

Another nice shade I saw, though I think would look too light for me was #11 Rose Illicit, which a rosy nude shade. Oh my, the truth is, there’s a lot of beautiful shades from this release, it’s hard to choose just one, but the price can be a guilt factor. On the other hand, these are really long lasting lip stains that could last either from 4-6 hours for light or nude shades, or 6-8 hours and beyond for darker shades. Also, these are high-quality, transfer-proof, matte-effect liquid lip stains that will surely give Dior’s Lip Tattoo, the popular Armani Lip Magnet, and even Lancome Matte Shaker a run for their money.

YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil Review

What’s Up Everybody! You all know I love YSL lip products and I just can’t get enough of them. As I’ve said before, YSL lippies are very reliable for me and they’re usually the lipsticks that you’d most likely find in my purse. They all have the same flavoring of their lipsticks, glosses and balms. It’s that juicy mango-guava taste that some of you may find to be a bit too much, but personally, it hasn’t really bothered me that much. It may take some getting used to for others though.

YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil

This YSL lip product that is currently in my purse is the YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil. It’s basically a very glossy and pigmented gloss that acts as a multitasker. It can be worn alone as a lip conditioner or a lip tint since it’s very hydrating, comforting and very lightweight while leaving a tint or stain of color as soon as the formula settles on your lips. It can also be worn on top of your favorite lipsticks for that added gloss. On top of that, it doesn’t feel sticky at all.

YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil Review

When I first swatched these lippies, I wasn’t exactly sure as to what color I should get. There’s not a lot of shades to choose from at my local Sephora or even online, though there’s more to choose from at YSL’s website. Also, they really seem to come off as very sheer. I also thought that there’s not a lot of colors that may fit my pigmented lips and skin tone. Eventually, I found two colors that I thought would look great on me. The shade No.8 Pink About Me and No.6 Peach Me Love.

  • No. 8 Pink About Me – This was the shade I’ve been eyeing online before I purchased it at my local Sephora. I thought this would be the best color for my pigmented lips, but it turns out that it’s way too sheer and too similar to my lip’s natural color, even the dry down color or tint is too similar, therefore this shade didn’t really show much on me, except to look more like a gloss. Therefore, a lip gloss it’s gonna be, and it’s a long wearing flattering lip gloss. Not bad at all.
  • No. 6 Peach Me Love – Love this shade a lot. It’s much much better than the No.8 Pink About Me shade when it comes to its pigmentation and staining ability. This particular color is basically a peachy-orange tone, but it looks more like a mauve-peach shade on my lips specially once it settles, because my lips has underlying pigments. I definitely prefer this shade more than the shade mentioned above as I could not only discern it but also it looks very natural.

YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil

I’ve read some comments about the products poor packaging, and that it tends to leak or spill. Hmmm, that really hasn’t happened to me so far. In fact, I find the packaging to be robust and pretty much easy to twist and open. The formulation is very oily for sure, but it’s very light and comforting. Also, it doesn’t make you look like you just drunk an entire bottle of olive oil. No not like that, the glossiness is just enough to flatter your lips, not to mention the pretty tint or stain that it leaves.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats, Part II

ysl rouge pur couture the mats

Howdy All! Today’s review is going to be exciting because we’ll be talking about YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats, again. But before that, the part 1 of this review can be found HERE. Since you all know that I’m an avid fan of YSL lipsticks, I have added four more of their matte lipsticks, called The Mats, as part of my personal stash of YSL lippies. You might be wondering why YSL? Because I just love their lip product’s formulation, the overall feel, longevity, and their gorgeous colors! There’s something about YSL’s lip products that makes your lip radiant, glowy, and simply beautiful.

We all know that YSL beauty recently added a couple more shades to the Rouge Pur Couture The Mats, and there’s quite some exciting colors to choose from. I had my eyes on the shades; 214, 217 and 218 and 206 shade.

Aside from the creamy and long-lasting YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks that I adore, I’m also a huge fan of The Mats. Their velvety matte formula is not like most matte lipsticks in the market nowadays. They sort of have this non-drying satiny matte feel that is comfortable on the lips while lasting for hours. They don’t feel heavy and leaves a soft stain even without reapplication.

The YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats still retain the same flavor that goes with any YSL lippies, which you may hate or love. As for me, it doesn’t bother me that much since I got used to their melon-mango flavor. Another thing I love about these lipsticks is that they have such gorgeous packaging. You can even engrave them whenever you purchase them at YSL’s website.

Here are my 4 faves:

ysl the mats 218 coral remix

218 (Coral Remix) – Pretty nude shade with a hint of coral. It’s the perfect daywear lipstick and can be worn by anybody with a medium skin tone. The texture is quite creamier than most The Mats.

ysl rouge pur couture the mats 214 wood on fire

214 (Wood On Fire) – This is a light red shade for those who like red, but not too much red. Think of it as an everyday red lipstick that doesn’t go over the top. It’s also a bit creamy.

ysl rouge pur couture the mats 217 nude trouble

217 (Nude Trouble) – This shade is definitely not nude. You could call it a nude pink-mauve perhaps, but this is more like a muted mauve that works really well if you have a medium skintone and sort of pigmented lips. Texture-wise, this feels like a perfect velvet-matte.

ysl rouge pur couture 206 grenat satisfaction

206 (Grenat Satisfaction) – This mix of dark, plum, brown and red shade is beyond gorgeous! Though this lipstick feels a bit drier compared to the other The Mats lipsticks, I think this is my kind of shade because it fits my skintone well.

Arm Swatch:

I like all the shades that I featured here, but if I have to rank them among each other, it would be; 4th place214, 3rd place 217, 2nd 218, and 1st- 206
