Spring/Summer Skincare Favorites Part 1

Hi everyone. Now that we have sunny days ahead, I am sharing some of my current skincare and haircare favorites for this spring/summer season. I have divided this post into two parts due to some products I use in rotation, alternating what my day-to-day skin situation needs.

spring 2023 skincare favorites

This warming season, I focus more on skin resurfacing products, pimple treatments and prevention, and some favorite sunscreens.

glow recipe aha bha serum review

Glow Recipe Strawberry Smooth BHA + AHA Salicylic Acid Serum – This is my daily exfoliator, and this works well in smoothing the skin texture by sloughing off dead skin cells, thereby revealing a youthful glassy skin glow. I love this product because this does not irritate or overpeel my skin. I can use this to layer with my moisturizer, SPF, and foundation. I also love Glow Recipe’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which can be combined with this product. I will review the Hyaluronic serum for part 2 of this post.

Caudalie Vinopure Natural Salicylic Acid Pore Minimizing Toner – Salicylic acid toners are hard to come by, and I do not know why. Thank goodness for this toner because this works wonders in keeping my skin from being so oily. This product works well in controlling sebum, which prevents pimples from forming. If I do not use this product daily, my skin becomes a hot mess. So, I cannot and will never break up with this product ever.

Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream – I use this as my daily leave-in conditioner or whenever my hair gets very frizzy. This has a very organic smell, and only half of a pea-size amount works wonders on my moody hair. I rely on this product to make me look human, lol, and this is the product that stands in the way of me becoming a modern-day Neanderthal :-). I used to be a big fan of the volumizing mousse from the same brand. My hairstylist loved to put it on my hair, but I got so bummed with the product’s spray cap, which kept breaking, that I just had to let it go.

supergoop unseen sunscreen review

Glossier Invisible Shield Water-Gel Transparent Sunscreen SPF 35 – I am in the process of finishing up this product, and I love this a lot. I will repurchase this pretty soon. What I love about this is the weightlessness and the fact that this does not leave a white cast on the face. I am so tired of sunscreens that make me look like Kaonashi from Spirited Away :-). This particular sunscreen is just easy on the face. No breakouts, no fuss, no worries, this just works!

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 – I love a lot of Supergoop sunscreens. This particular sunscreen is one of my faves because this is also light and easy on the face. No white cast, no heavy sunscreen scent, and non-sticky. This is my sunscreen of choice whenever I anticipate the sun to be too much for what my skin can handle. I also have the Glowscreen version of this SPF and Vitamin C version which are very comparable and are also very good.

paulas choice 20% nicotinamide treatment serum

Paula’s Choice Clinical Niacinamide 20% Treatment – I love this product because I love clinical strength niacinamide. This product has one of the highest concentrations of niacinamide out there for the skin. Niacinamide works in combatting pimples the natural way, and it makes the skin glow. I am no longer a retinol user because this does the job for me, plus this gives me a youthful glow without irritating or drying my skin. The only downside is the price point. The higher the niacinamide concentration, the pricier it gets.

Paula’s Choice Pro Collagen Multi-Peptide Booster – Hands up if you are loving Paula’s Choice products like I do. I love the brand’s colorful bottles and high-potent products that genuinely work for the skin. The latest product I love from Paula’s Choice is collagen. I have been crazy about collagen lately. Collagen is necessary for our skin because we lose it gradually as we age. Collagen makes the skin firm, improving our skin’s elasticity and tone with constant use. Collagen is essential to keep a young-looking skin, and I need it like I need water.

paulas choice pro collagen booster serum review

This product has a slightly funky scent, but it does not linger. Since using this, my skin looks more toned, and less chin sagging is noticed. P.S. I also love this brand’s 10% Azelaic Acid Booster, which helps control pimples if used alongside the niacinamide treatment mentioned above. The said product does not peel compared to other known azelaic acid products from other brands.

kate somerville goat milk moisturizing cream

Kate Sommerville Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream – This a great everyday moisturizer that is so lightweight and will not leave the skin oily. The product keeps the skin moisturized and applies evenly with just a tiny amount. I love this because there is no strong scent, and this gets absorbed by my skin quickly. I recommend this moisturizer for sensitive skin, and this is easy to use during Spring and Summer seasons.

Olehenriksen Walnut Scrub – I am finishing this fantastic facial scrub and am disappointed because Olehenriksen discontinued this amazing product! This scrub may look odd in appearance and texture, but this is sooo exfoliating on the skin. This works in scrubbing off any pore obstruction and exfoliates skin roughness. Why Olehenriksen, why? I will see if the 10% AHA Lemonade Smoothing Scrub from the same brand will be a suitable replacement for this product. Will report to you all in the second part of this post.

That is the first part of my skincare faves this spring/summer season. Please try the products whenever you get a chance because they work for the skin, especially if you have oily pimple-prone skin that needs to be rescued, revitalized, and maintained.

Sephora is currently running a Savings Event where you can save up to 30-40% Off. It will be an excellent chance to save if you decide to purchase the products in this post.

which will lead you to Sephora’s website and sales event

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask Review

Currentbody LED Light Therapy mask

Hello everyone. This post is all about healing and improving our skin through the benefit of LED light therapy using the Currentbody face mask. If you have noticed, many people that are known to have beautiful glowy skin have an established skincare routine. Part of that routine likely includes regular visits to dermatologist or at least a very good trusted facialist. These skincare professionals almost all use LED light therapy. LED light therapy is proven to be safe and effective in improving the vitality of the skin over time. However, for most of us, regular visits to the derma to avail of the coveted facial LED light therapy is not only pricey but also not quite practical with our hectic schedule. I, for one, needed a practical and less costly solution, long-term.

I have tried some LED light therapy before, even spot-targeting LED lights that promised to control and prevent breakouts. Much to my dismay, I ended up not liking them because first, they took a long time to improve skincare concerns. Second, they just do not have enough LED wavelength that could help with any of my troublesome breakouts, and third, they are just time-consuming to use.

Enter the Currentbody Skin LED Light Therapy (featured on Netflix’s Emily in Paris series). With this LED face mask, I noticed a huge improvement in my overall skintone and skin health. I gave myself enough time to try the mask and see the full benefits. I was blown away by how the mask managed to control and prevent the appearance of my hormonal breakouts. Even the ghost of my previous dark spots’ past went away 😃 . Apart from that, I noticed a change in the integrity of my skin, specifically my skin’s texture and elasticity. My skin now feels more firm and less rubbery than before using the mask. I had some reaction to a previous supplement I was taking, where my skin developed redness, dryness, and dullness no matter how much soothing moisturizer I applied. The Currentbody LED mask improved such issue, and my skin looked way more glowy than before using it.

currentbody led facial device

Curious why LED light therapy works? LED light has been known to improve the appearance of the skin by stimulating the skin’s cells to regenerate new cells. Think of it as a kind of regenerative medicine for the face. In a study by Russel et al. (2009), thirty-one patients with facial rhytids (medical term for fine lines and wrinkles) underwent a combination of LED light therapy wavelengths. To which, fifty percent of them had visible skin improvement at twelve weeks, and continuous succeeding improvements of eighty percent upon months of follow-up. The patients were assessed visually through clinical photography and overall satisfaction score.

Schoutsen (2023) explained that LED light therapy stimulates the skin cells called chromophores. The chromophores transform the LED light energy into chemical energy, setting a series of cellular reaction that improves blood circulation, collagen production, and inflammation reduction. Such a continuous cellular process renews the skin, making it look youthful and glowy. That is why LED masks such as the one from Currentbody is great as anti-aging facial device.

The Currentbody LED therapy mask uses two clinical wavelengths (red and near-infrared) to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It has a patented flexible silicone to make sure that light energy truly gets into all the areas of the face. The mask is safe to use for all skin types and tones. Its maximum usage lasts for 10 minutes, and you can use it five times a week. You must first cleanse and exfoliate your skin before using the device. You can also use Currentbody’s Skin Hydrogel Face Mask along with the device. In my experience, using the device with the gel mask feels really good and it leaves my skin moisturized afterward.

The device comes with its own USB charging cable, a user manual, eye goggles to protect your eyes (if you are sensitive to light), an adjustable velcro strap to wrap the device around your head, and a storage bag. Before using, it is safe practice to first conduct a sensitivity test, to check if you will experience skin burns (which is a rare occurrence).

The Currentbody LED light therapy mask is generally safe to use, pain-free, and will generally not burn the skin. If you are curious about the overall long-term side effects of using LED light therapy on the skin, well, worry not. In a systematic review of Glass (2023), LED light therapy (within established parameters) are indeed safe, and it will not cause any oncologic reactions over time with continued use. Even cancer patients who decide to try LED light therapy for their skin can enjoy the anti-aging device.
